Electrolysis

Hair Removal using by Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a method for the elimination of hair using a small electrical current to destroy the hair follicle. Each hair is individually treated by inserting a fine needle into the hair follicle and applying a short burst of electrical energy to it which destroys the hair root. The hair should then be free enough to be eased out, not pulled. This is then repeated to treat all hair in the treatment area. Electrolysis is a precise skill and the results obtained are dependent on the skill of the therapist.

Is Electrolysis Painful?

Different individuals experience different sensations. Electrolysis is not pain free. To most patients a mild momentary stinging or burning sensations is felt. Some people find it too painful to tolerate.

How many treatments are needed?

The length of treatment will depend on the area to be treated. However because of the nature of hair growth more than one treatment for a particular area will be required to achieve good results. After one treatment the hair will normally re-growbut it will not grow as densely as before and gradually the extend of re-growth will diminish to very low levels. Other methods of hair control such as waxing, threading and plucking will disturb the normal growth pattern and will hinder the effectiveness of treatment.

Will it mark my skin?

When performed competently, there will be no damage to the skin in the area. A professional therapist will understand how to treat each hair and will keep the area aseptic and use sterile needles to avoid infection. .

Some side effects can occur such as redness, minor swelling of the area and the occasional fine scabs but these effects are minor and short lived. There is no risk of permanent skin damage such as scarring or pitting if the treatment is performed by a qualified experienced professional.

Is it permanent?

Electrolysis is often held to be a method of permanent hair removal. The hair follicles are destroyed. However new hair follicles can be stimulated into growth and thus hair can re-grow at any time. Normally however this re-growth is slight and can be addressed by a few short treatment sessions every year or so.
Electrolysis is often viewed as a permanent hair removal method. Once the hair root is destroyed, the hair will not grow back, right?

In some cases hair does re-grow in places and clients need to return once or twice a year for a cleanup. Hair can continue to grow in the underarms, pubic area. Applying a hair inhibitor lotion after electrolysis can stop the hair from re-appearing.
